Media Release
LONDON, ON - The new state-of-the-art Rorabeck Bourne Joint Replacement Clinic is now open at London Health Science’s University Hospital as part of the second milestone of the major hospital restructuring at London Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Health Care, London with the support of orthopaedic surgeons Dr. Robert Bourne and Dr. Cecil Rorabeck.
London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care, London are now well into the next phase of redevelopment as part the overall restructuring of London’s hospitals. The new Joint Replacement Clinic is the second program in the past two weeks to open its doors to the public.
"It is great to see our years of planning come to life through the opening of the new Rorabeck Bourne Joint Replacement Clinic at University Hospital. This new clinic is part of our larger overall plan for London Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s Health Care, London to consolidate our services, improve patient care and improve our infrastructure,” said Cliff Nordal President and CEO, London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care, London.
The new clinic will be a one-stop healthcare facility for initial appointments, pre and post operative assessments, and follow-up visits.
"We have designed this new space to ease patient flow - making the comfort of our patients our top priority. Our new equipment, beds and systems will help us provide better patient care in one central location,” said Dr. Steven MacDonald, FRCSC, Site Chief of Surgery and the Site Chief of Orthopaedics at LHSC’s University Hospital.
Approximately 1,300 joint replacements are performed at LHSC each year. To meet the ever growing need for orthopaedic care, the new clinic houses five new exam rooms, an additional procedure room, state-of-the-art equipment and computer systems and a new waiting room with furniture that eases patient comfort.
The Joint Replacement Clinic has been relocated from an older space on the 1st level of University Hospital to a newly renovated space and is supported by the generosity of donors through London Health Sciences Foundation, including noted orthopaedic surgeons Dr. Robert Bourne and Dr. Cecil Rorabeck who each donated $250,000.
